This account is used by Richters staff to answer questions and post information of interest to the SeedZoo community. While Richters wholeheartedly supports this forum, we did not create it. It is independently managed by Mike Higgs, a SeedZoo enthusiast. We are very grateful to him for coming up with the idea for the forum, and for creating and managing it. We sincerely hope that the forum will facilitate the sharing of seeds and knowledge and help preserve the SeedZoo varieties.

Howdy folks! Thanks for having this forum. It does not look very active. Needs more folks replying, so I'm replying. This idea of seed zoo is really great! It says you don't have the resources to grow out the seeds you collect. Something needs to be done about that. When heirloom varieties are grown more widespread, and used more widespread simultaneously, that is when they become less rare. A coordinated and focussed effort can do this. Things that are involved include larger scale seed increases, growers, farmers market growers, truck farm growers, roadside stand growers, growers for local stores, internet sales growers, and gardeners, private and community. Recipes need to be made for the varieties, old original recipes, new popular taste recipes, and fine gourmet style recipes. This is marketting at a simple and effective level. Yes, also the varieties can have other emergency methods of protection mostly by seed saving gardeners, but also by seed vaults and banks, and seed libraries.
